Notes

1) Only one entry phase for the six-year rotation.

Fertility treatments for maize/tomato and wheat systems include conventional mineral fertilizer, full organic fertilizer (manure + legume cover crops), and a winter legume cover crop without an additional N source. The wheat system also includes a wheat-fallow with no fertilizer added.

Weed management split-plots (conventional versus low dosages of herbicides) were introduced in 2008 and maintained until 2022.

RCD
Rotation treatments involve the presence and absence of a winter legume cover crop in a tomato-maize system or a wheat-fallow system. The tomato-maize system also tests organic and conventional fertility practices. The maize-fallow system also tests irrigation practices. There is an additional grassland system.
